Aloha!!
We recently arrived in Maui. To celebrate, the first night we had Mai Tais while watching a sunset!
We took a short drive from our Airbnb in Kihei to the Āhihi-Kīna'U Natural Area Reserve. We were amazed at the enormous lava fields from the last eruption of Haleakala 200-500 years ago. 🌋
This is a picture of La Perouse Bay which is also part of the Preserve because of its rare marine ecosystems. You can see the lava-lined water's edge.
There are so many beautiful trees and flowers. To learn more about Maui's agricultural riches we took a tour at the Maui Tropical Plantation. We learned that many of the trees we have seen are called Monkey Pod trees:
We had a demonstration on how to husk a coconut:🥥
The Plantation offered beautiful views, too!
At the Country Market of the Plantation we couldn't resist buying a treat for Wendy and Penelope:
More Maui wow-wee to come! 😊
