On our way to Montréal we stopped at the Canadian Railway Museum in Saint-Constant, Québec.
My favorite was this Montréal Street Railway car:
In 1905 railway shops in Montréal combined the style of car used in St. Louis with the bleacher streetcar used by the company band, and the observation streetcar was born! A total of four "golden chariots" were built between 1905 and 1924, quickly earning Montréal a reputation for its panoramic routes.
Speaking of panoramic views, we didn't have a golden chariot but our little Honda made it to the top of Mount Royal to get this wonderful panoramic view of Montréal!
We hope to get a closer look at Olympic Park and the Montréal Tower later this week. The white stadium and tower from the 1976 Olympics really stands out in the landscape!
Today we went to the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. The newest building has lots of glass offering many views of the downtown. In this collage you can see how sculpture enhances the building.
One of my favorite exhibits was the "Cabinet of Curiosities", also pictured in the collage.
Every year the Museum hosts an installation on the street nearby which is designed and mounted by local artists. This year's work, Inflorescence, contemplates the beauty and biodiversity of the natural world.
This mural of Leonard Cohen is a view clearly seen from the Museum. Leonard Cohen is a Canadian singer-songwriter, his most famous song being Hallelujah.
More Montréal to come ....
