Mérida, Mexico

Happy New Year! We started 2024 with a trip to Mérida, Mexico! We have friends there that graciously hosted us in their palatial abode. We felt like we were staying at the Alhambra in Spain!

Mérida was founded in 1542 by Francisco de Montejo. We walked down the Champs-Élysées-inspired Paseo de Montejo which is lined with many of Mérida's most glamorous and oldest houses.

The oldest cathedral in Mexico is the Catedral de Mérida - San Ildefonso.

Across from the cathedral is the Plaza Grande.

We took a Street Food Walking Tour one morning to learn about Yucatecan food. We ambled through the Lucas de Galvez Market and tried various fruits, spices, meats and candies.

Our last day we had lunch at Hacienda San Ildefonso Teya. The meal was delicious and we enjoyed walking around the Hacienda.

Our visit was too short. 🙁 There are so many wonderful places to explore in Mérida. Thank you E & R for all the new memories.
