In ancient Greece slaves were traded for salt. An unruly slave was not "worth one's salt" i.e. of little value.
We found this gem of a museum in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. The Salt and Pepper Shaker Museum has over 20,000 pairs of shakers!
The collector, an archaeologist, says that such a diverse and varied collection can depict changes in a society.
As we walked through we easily saw the changes from ancient times to the 1500's, 1800's, 1920's, 40's, 60's and all the way up to the present time.
The shakers are displayed by themes and colors. Here is a display of vegetables:

During our stay in Pigeon Forge it has been smoky, and not the kind seen in the surrounding Great Smoky Mountains. Because of the recent fires in Eastern Canada, the air quality is affected here. We did have a clear weather day today (after a big rain) so we had a lovely day to drive through part of the Great Smoky National Park.
