Our Southern Garden Tour continues in Louisiana with a trip to the Biedenharn Museum and Gardens in Monroe.
I’ve never watched this reality television show, but we couldn’t resist a trip to the Duck Commander warehouse, gift shop and museum owned by the Robertson family of “Duck Dynasty” fame!
We even got to make our own, personal duck call to take home!
A trip to the Chennault Aviation and Military Museum was recommended by our guide at the Biedenharn, so we headed out to the Monroe Airport at Selman Field. This was once the home of the largest flight navigator training school in the nation. The field’s history includes the Selman Field Army Air Corps Navigation School, Chennault’s Flying Tigers fighter squadron and the birth of Delta Air Lines. The Museum highlights much of this history:

As we learned at the Biedenharn Museum, Malcolm S. Biedenharn was one of the original six incorporators of Delta Airlines, founded in Monroe, Louisiana, in 1929. Delta offered its first passenger flights that year with routes from Dallas, Texas to Jackson, Mississippi.
We found some beautiful tulips in Monroe’s Kiroli Park:
Last stop on our Southern Garden Tour – next month is Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas!
