We are two bears being chauffeured on an epic
road trip. Cheryl does not include us in her blog posts
so we want to tell you about our travels!
We have visited 45 of the states in the continental United
States. Our apologies to the states of
West Virginia, Indiana, and Kentucky. We
hope to see you sometime in the future.
We have been traveling for 14 months and 24 days and have
gone 44,865 miles. We are not tired from
our travels but we do not know where to go next. We ran out of plans so we came back home to Texas!
We have been very fortunate to have our car take very good
care of us. His name is Rerun. He has a comfortable back seat.
Rerun is amazing. He had
one tire blowout near Cody, Wyoming, but it did not keep us from traveling
because Rerun has a spare tire! Rerun needed one battery jump start rescue in
Massachusetts when he parked to admire the ocean view and left his lights on. He backed into a pole in California but survived
with only a small boo-boo.
Rerun has taken us to a lot of very remote places!
Wisconsin |
New Mexico |
Rerun has even
traveled in snow and on gravel roads on our trip.
He never complained.
California |
New Mexico |
Colorado |
We even got to ride in Rerun as he drove through a big tree in California!
We are very glad that
we did not have to ride our bicycles on this trip!
We enjoyed seeing all
the pretty sights!
Adamson-Spaulding Storybook Garden in Abilene, Texas |
Palo Duro Canyon, Texas |
We normally sit in the back seat but one time we drove!
White Sands, New Mexico |
Google maps says we really have traveled a lot!
We have met a lot on people in our travels: a romance novelist in Arizona, a cowboy in
Colorado, an Amish farmer in Pennsylvania, an Airbnb software engineer in
California, a retired banker in New Mexico,
a father with a new baby in Texas, a man that runs a souvenir shop in North Dakota, an artist that designs
wine bottle labels in Colorado, three retired school teachers (Michigan, Nevada, and New Mexico), two college professors in Colorado,
a song writer in Tennessee, many interesting and helpful ride share drivers, an
art school instructor in Maine, three real estate developers (Texas, Nebraska,
and California), a Comic-Con celebrity
cartoon artist in Oregon, a car collector in California, 4 salesmen, a chef
in Nevada, a
home remodeler in Kansas, a real estate broker in Oklahoma, a judge in South
Dakota, an artist in New York, standup comedians in Arkansas, and an apple
farmer in Wisconsin.
As we have stated before, we are the true planners for our
trip.
Our chauffeur is only needed
because our legs are too short to reach the gas pedal. We must confess that we made three road trip
planning errors. We did not get to see
Nantucket because we did not get a revised ferry schedule. We discovered that you must double and triple
check all navigation instructions that you give to Rerun because we found out
that both New Hampshire and Massachusetts have towns named “Salem”. We were very lucky that Salem, New Hampshire
and Salem, Massachusetts are only 37 miles apart! Also, despite Rerun’s best efforts, and
driving on miles of gravel roads, we never found Ah-Shi-Sle-Pah Wilderness in
New Mexico known for their multicolored badlands, sandstone hoodoos, petrified
wood, and dinosaur bones. ☹
We have been sharing our adventures with the bears that did not get to go on the
trip. This was our
first presentation to give. We have a
lot more bears to tell!
The advantage to being in our own home is that we can bake
cookies anytime we want!
Thank you for reading our blog posts!
It gives Cheryl a break and we have so much fun writing it!
