New Hampshire

Lee / Portsmouth:

We were very lucky to stay in a wonderful Airbnb owned by friends of my aunt and uncle in New York City.  This Airbnb is in Lee, New Hampshire which is very close to Portsmouth.  We really enjoyed exploring the area.  We spent quite a bit of time at the USS Albacore Submarine and Museum and the Strawbery Banke Outdoor History Museum (yes, that is the correct spelling!)  It was fun climbing around inside of a submarine and looking at the decorative arts created by artisans in that area during the 1700’s!

However, the best treat of all was when our Airbnb host took us to the privately owned Portsmouth Athenaeum!  Most athenaeums are now publicly accessible libraries and museums.  We had a wonderful tour of the athenaeum and downtown Portsmouth.

The Portsmouth African Burying Ground memorial was also impressive.

Jackson Village:

New Hampshire is especially important to us because we spent our honeymoon here in a fabulous hotel in the little village of Jackson.  Our return trip after 15 years was just as magical as were the fall colors and decorations!  Just imagine driving through a covered bridge and coming into this little village where there are the cutest, funniest and most clever “Pumpkin People” everywhere!

Jackson is in the heart of the White Mountains.  We drove many of the beautiful scenic byways; however, we decided to see the area in some different ways.  One day we took the Conway Scenic Railroad Notch Train for some beautiful scenery!

And another day we experienced the fall colors from a boat on Lake Winnipesaukee.  We took the Mount Washington Cruise and Champagne Brunch.

Cornish:

We ended our visit of New Hampshire at the Saint-Gauden’s National Historic Site.  Another opportunity to enjoy sculpture in a beautiful outdoor setting!
