Milwaukee: We changed our original trip plans so that we
could go to Milwaukee and to see the Milwaukee Art Museum. I had seen it from afar many years ago and
have always wanted to return to visit the museum. I most wanted to see it because of the
architecture. Designed by Eero Saarinen,
it is truly an amazing place! Since I
wanted to see the “wings” as they opened, we had to visit both days we were in
Milwaukee. If it’s windy, they won’t
open the “wings”. As you can see, we got
a bit carried away with taking photos of the outside of this building!

Once we made it inside, it was even more amazing! When you enter from the garage, the first
thing you see is an Alexander Calder sculpture above!
And if the architecture and views are not stunning enough, the art collection and displays are even more spectacular. We especially loved the glass and how it was displayed against the windows facing Lake Michigan.
I love decorative arts and found these pieces of particular
interest. I’m sharing pictures of desks
and chairs as inspiration for my friends at the Hirsch Library of Museum of
Fine Arts, Houston!

One of the most interesting exhibition areas is called the
“Collaboratory” where works of all types are exhibited together. There are several drawers that can be pulled
out to see objects that connect past centuries with the contemporary world.
We ate lunch at the Safehouse – a fun place to experience!
Milwaukee is a wonderful city with beautiful lakeshore drives and terrific breweries!
