The Cowboy State & Big Sky Country!

Welcome to Wyoming

Our journey north has brought us to Wyoming, the "Cowboy State". We took a scenic drive through part of Grand Teton National Park.

We will be spending several nights in West Yellowstone, Montana to visit Yellowstone National Park. Although we've been here before, it's constantly changing and there is always something new to see.

Our first day we made an early start and saw early morning frost on the meadows.

A beautiful day at Swan Lake:

We spent the day driving through the northern section of the Park, towards Cooke City. This route took us through the spectacular Lamar River Valley and provided up-close and personal views of bison.

We were sitting in a line of traffic because of bison 🦬 up ahead. I rolled my window down to see if I could get a picture. Then I heard a loud snorting sound. I turned my head and this bison was coming straight at our car -- so close I couldn't even get a complete shot of him! Fortunately, he went behind our car and to the other side of the road without any mishap. 😅

A trip to Yellowstone National Park would not be complete without seeing the otherworldly thermal sights. We stopped at Mammoth Hot Springs which features travertine terraces. These are white and orange-tinted mineral deposits of calcium carbonate.

We'll be visiting more thermals in the next few days, so check back for some "hot" pictures!
